Elnaby Danial Mosque
located in Nabi Daniel street in Moharram Bek in Alexandria.
The mosque was built in the late eighteenth century on the site of a fourth-century Roman temple. There are two explanations for the origin of its name. The first is about the prophet Daniel in the biblical story, the Macedonian king who founded the city of Alexandria and was buried in a golden sarcophagus after his death, right below the mosque. The second explanation concerns Sheikh Mohammed Daniel, a Kurd who came to Alexandria from Mosul in the fifteenth century. The mosque was rebuilt in 1823.
